Richmond, BC – visited in December 2015
Richmond is a coastal city just south of Vancouver on the Pacific shore. Richmond is located on an island at the mouth of the Fraser River. The Az Zahraa Islamic Center is a contemporary structure with many references to historical form.
BCMA Richmond Jamea Mosque was the first constructed mosque in British Columbia. Initial concept consultations were done by Arthur Erickson, and the design was completed by Alexander Resanovic. This mosque is the headquarters for all of the affiliated BMCA (British Columbia Muslim Association) mosques that number over twelve in the province.
